Why it's Better to Have a Mind than a Brain...

I’ve decided once more to write about the mind. In particular, the point must be made that we are not our brains. We are our minds, a rich, alive, constantly changing mystery. The brain carries out what the mind wants. To mistake the brain, a lump of proteins, sugar, and water, for a mind is a drastic mistake.

What can we share during our interactions so peaceful becomes normal?

Some years ago while researching cases where patients spontaneously recovered from cancer — an occurrence that remains unexplained — I hit upon a striking fact. There is no consistent thing that such patients do, no single technique drug, or alternative therapy. Some prayed, some became Buddhists, some turned to coffee enemas or grape juice. There was no consistency at all, and no scientific evidence that a magical substance had been found.

How can I communicate better so peaceful results are achieved?

With 30 million record sales under his belt, and with fans including Bono and Al Gore, Pakistanborn Salman Ahmad is renowned for being the first rock & roll star to destroy the wall that divides the West and the Muslim world. Rock & Roll Jihad is the story of his incredible journey.

What quality should I practice everyday to help achieve a peaceful society?

How to Live With Certainty in Uncertain Times...

~ Deepak Chopra

What makes a relationship right, or an important decision? How can you tell if deep spiritual questions have an answer? As children, we all asked these questions. They came naturally. Is there a God? Do I have a soul? What happens after I die? Children are too young to understand that their parents are just as confused as they are. But the answers are given, and for a time they suffice. If Grandma went to heaven to be with Grandpa, a child will sleep better and feel less sad.

The spiritual meaning of love is measured by what it can do. Love is meant to heal, renew, and bring us closer to God. -Deepak Chopra

Fake Fears and Why You (Probably) Believe in Them

“Nonviolence is a powerful method to harmonize relationships among people (and all living things) for the establishment of justice and the ultimate well-being of all parties. It draws its power from awareness of the profound truth to which the wisdom traditions of all cultures, science, and common experience bear witness: that all life is one.”

Five Principles of Nonviolence

Is the American system due for a major overhaul? Three recent crises have exposed major weaknesses in that system. The economic bubble burst after decades of rising prosperity. Health care expenses have soared beyond reason. The military finds itself mired in two wars, even though we are told that a rocky recovery is underway, these crises are more fundamental than they appear. Three pillars of American life are cracking, along with the beliefs that hold them up.

A front-page poll in the New York Times confronts an issue no one likes to talk about: the pain of losing our job. Fifty percent of the unemployed have borrowed money from friends or relatives. Around the same number have experienced depression or anxiety. Four in ten are struggling enough that they have noticed behavioral changes in their children.

This is a meditation exercise that demonstrates the power of intention. But it is more than a mere demonstration. Do this regularly so that this ritual can focus your attention and your intention. Go to a quiet place where you are not likely to be disturbed for 15 minutes. Close your eyes, practice the primordial sound mantra- “So-hum” - for five minutes placing your awareness on your breath.

AROUND THE WORLD people yearn to find peace and give solace to the suffering and bereaved. Once again the clash of polarised enemies clamours for attention.

Al-Qaeda takes pride in this heinous and sordid crime, while Western nations seek to bring the terrorists to justice. Yet it would be naive to take the simple way out and call this an example of pure evil and depravity.

Today, decide that you will look beyond you will look beyond your own point of view. Say to someone, “tell me more about how you see things.” It’s easy to find a time to do that- just wait until you think you have the most important thing to say, then stop and let someone else speak instead. The soul takes all points of view, and the more you imitate that habit, the more spiritual your life will become. Baba* had a good way of explaining this.

“Do you know the story of the blind men and the elephant?” he asked

Today, decide to see the world with your heart and not your head. To imagine what that’s like, think about how a mother feels toward her child. No matter how many ways the child may decide to be bad, its mother doesn’t chage her love. She sees her child with heart awareness. You can do that for anyone you pick. Overlook their faults for just ten minutes, seeing them as totally good.

This is the mantra of the breath; if you observe your breathing you'll hear "so-hum" as air moves in and out of your lungs. As you inhale, the sound of the vibration is "so". And as you exhale, the sound becomes "hum". If you want, you can experiment with this. Inhale deeply, close your eyes and your mouth, and exhale forcefully through your nose. If you concentrate, you'll hear the "hum" sound quite clearly.
